VOLUNTEER WITH MARINE FAUNA IN MEXICO

You will live in Puerto Ángel, Oaxaca, but working as well in Mazunte during your staying with us. Both communities are very different, Puerto Ángel focused their development into fishing and Mazunte is a highlight spot for backpackers and travelers, with a very freespirit essence.

WHAT YOU WILL DO AS A VOLUNTEER WITH WHALES

volunteer monitoring marine fauna in Mexico

The main activities of this volunteering program are:

  • Whale Monitoring by boat with biologists and locals and monitoring during the sunset in Punta Cometa
  • Environmental education regarding whales to travelers while monitoring by boat or in Punta Cometa
  • Data Analysis and material selection
  • Cultural workshops to get involved in the local life

A TYPICAL DAY AS A VOLUNTEER WITH WHALES AND MARINE FAUNA

Rise with the sun and set sail at 6 AM, the Pacific Ocean your canvas. The morning’s task: monitor and document the marine spectacle that unfolds beneath the sunrise. Return home with the scent of adventure clinging to your skin and many data of the animals and whales that you observed during the boat trip.

Essence of your home.

The midday is a moment to recharge. After that, the data from the morning awaits your analysis. It’s a routine, a dance with numbers and images that tell a tale of marine life.

As the afternoon arrives, you will have to make a choice to travel to Mazunte (as well to come back)—private taxi at 300 Mexican pesos or public transport at a more budget-friendly 30 pesos per ride.

The sun begins its descent. You find yourself at Punta Cometa as the sky ignites, searching for the last whales you see in the day, along with them, the final data that will be crucial for the study of their populations.

And then, night falls. It was a day of routine punctuated by moments of nature’s beauty. It’s not a journey into the heart of Oaxaca; it’s a series of tasks, each ticking off the clock until the next dawn breaks.

Whales, Dolphins, Turtles, Corals and much more.
